There is something about Arakku that feels deeply familiar.
For many South Indian brides, Arakku is more than a colour. It is memory. It is tradition. It is often the shade of the Koorai Pudavai — the wedding saree that marks one of life’s most important transitions.
Perhaps that is why I am always drawn to it.
This week, it appeared through the quiet beauty of a Muthukkattam. Soft threadwork checks moved gently across the silk, creating texture without demanding attention. The Manthulir Pachai selvedge softened the richness of the Arakku, while the simple sequence of Bogudi, Valayal, and Mailkan along the border gave the saree its rhythm.
Nothing loud. Nothing excessive.
Just colour, structure, and memory woven together.
Some sarees impress instantly. Some remain with us because they feel familiar in a way we cannot fully explain.
This one felt like coming home.
