“Celebrating Weaves: Jump into My Story”

About Me

This blog is my humble space to celebrate Kanchivaram through the eyes of someone who treasures it dearly. I am not a scholar. I am a devoted admirer. I share the wonder, the stories, and the magic of these sarees through my eyes.

On Going Blogging Journey

As I start my blogging journey, I want to keep this page updated. I will base updates on my experiences. These include acquiring sarees through buying and inheritance. I gain experiences by interacting with experts. I learn by reading blogs and textile books. Visiting looms and interacting with weavers during these visits also enriches my understanding.

Passion for Handloom and Handmade Crafts

“I love to collect handloom, handwoven fabric, especially sarees. As a Kanjeevaram saree fanatic, I enjoy collecting some classic ones that have a timeless appeal.”

My Love for Draping Sarees

“My love for draping sarees began during the pandemic with ‘Work From Home’. I started draping sarees as part of my work attire, and the love continues to this day.”

FRIDAYKANCHI- A Living, Shared Archive

Fridaykanchi began as a simple act of consistency. It involved choosing to wear a Kanchivaram saree every Friday. It also included taking time to watch it more closely. Over time, it evolved into a living archive. This archive reflects lived experience with a textile. The textile reveals itself through repetition, memory, and time.

Kanchivarams are often spoken in terms of occasion and grandeur. What draws me instead is how they age. Borders soften with wear. Colors deepen. The weight and drape quietly show the hand of the weaver long after the loom has fallen silent. Fridaykanchi records these moments of noticing, one saree at a week.

This practice is not about showcasing something new every Friday. Many of the sarees that here have been worn before and will be worn again. Repetition is intentional. It creates space to notice details that are easily missed. You can see the logic of the korvai join. Notice the density of the weave or the balance between body, border, and pallu.

A shared Space

While Fridaykanchi began as a personal practice, it has grown into shared space. Over time, a community of Kanchivaram saree lovers has gathered around from all parts of the globe. This includes collectors, wearers, and those simply curious about handloom textile. Through conversations, shared memories, and lived experiences, people revisit and relive these sarees. This adds collective depth to the Fridaykanchi Insta handle.

Fridaykanchi is shared weekly on Instagram, where the visual moment of each Friday finds its expression and conversation often start. When a saree or technique calls for deeper documentation, the longer selections are preserved here on the blog. Every Fridaykanchi saree is recorded, even when public post remains brief.

This blog serves as the archive behind the practice. It holds observations on weave techniques, color pairings, and border logic. It also includes reflections gathered over time, both personal and shared. Not every entry aims to be exhaustive, the intention is continuity rather than completeness.

At its core, Fridaykanchi is a slow exercise in looking, learning, and remembering together. It shows an ongoing engagement with a living craft. The craft is shaped by use, attention, and community.
